Centro principale dell'alta valle dell'Amene, di origine Equa, Trevi nel Lazio sorge intorno alla rocca innalzata dai Caetani. Prima colonia, poi municipio dei Romani, in epoca imperiale il suo nome era Treba Augusta: di epoca romana vi sono infatti numerosi resti archeologici. Dal sec. V all'XI d.C. fu sede di episcopato, ma poi divenne feudo dei Conti e dei Caetani. Da quando questi ultimi, nel 1471, furono cacciati a furor di popolo, la storia di Trevi seguì fedelmente le vicende dell'abbazia di Subiaco, sotto la cui giurisdizione rimase fino al 1870. Tra i monasteri benedettini importante per Trevi fu quello di Santa Scolastica (Subiaco) dove nel 1464 i tedeschi Pannartz e Schweynheym importarono la prima tipografia italiana. Bellezze paesaggistiche e numerose sorgenti d'acqua, che sgorgano ad approvvigionare i comuni limitrofi, distinguono il territorio di Trevi nel Lazio. Ricoperti di boschi, gli Altipiani di Trevi, o meglio di Arcinazzo, stazione climatica a 1000 m di altitudine, sono notissimi per la loro bellezza e quiete. Febonio, storico del 1500, così ne paria: "... i prati verdeggianti e fioriti sono luoghi ameni per il pascolo delie greggi ovine, per gli armenti di buoi, per le mandrie di cavalli. " Oggi gli Altipiani di Arcinazzo sono meta frequentatissima per soggiorni estivi ed invernali e possiedono una struttura ricettiva di primordine.

It is the principal centre in the high valley of the Aniene River. Trevi nel Lazio was founded by the Aequi people and grew around the fortress built by the Caetani family. At first it was a colony but became later a Roman municipium called Treba Augusta. There are still a lot of archaeological remains that date back to the Roman age. From the 5th to the 11th cent. AD it was an episcopacy but later became a fief belonging to the Conti and to the Caetani. In 1471 the Caetanis were driven away by popular acclaim and since then Trevi followed the destiny of the Abbey of Subiaco. It remained under the jurisdiction of the Abbey until 1870. Very important for the town of Trevi was the Benedictine monastery of Santa Scolastica (Subiaco), where in the 1464 the two German typographers Pannartz and Schweynheym imported in Italy the first typography. Characteristic features of Trevi nel Lazio are the beauty natural scenaries and the many water springs which supply the surrounding towns. The plateaus of Trevi are better known as the "Altipiani di Arcinazzo", which is a health resort at 1000 m above the sea level. They are covered of woods and are very famous for their beauty and quietness. The historian Febonio in the 1500 says about the plateaus: "....the verdant meadows in bloom are pleasant places for the grazing flocks, cattles and herds". Nowadays the Altipiani di Arcinazzo are a very much visited resort for summer and winter holidays with fìrst-rate hotels.
